This past weekend’s thoughts

We had a great weekend at PromiseLand San Marcos.

  • We had wonderful crowd attendance (especially for a Summer wknd with no ‘special’ guest or activity planned).  It is looking like we need to add a morning service and discuss how that will affect ‘The Walk” on Sunday night.  The bottomline on growth is that Sunday morning is full and Sunday night is not a viable option for most people to attend on a regular basis.  On the other hand, Sunday night is a great service and it is slowly growing with people that can’t attend on Sunday morning due to work or other scheduling conflicts. You guys need to read this story. Wow. These are personal friends of mine that pastor Riverstone Church here in San Marcos. They are in Ukraine right now adopting a child. This is an amazing post.

First of all, thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers for us today.  It has been an incredibly emotional and heavy day, and I'm going to do my best to convey to you the information I know you're anxious for… Holly and I did not sleep last night.  Maybe 45 minutes each at different times, but we just couldn't sleep.  How could over a decade of praying culminate in this one day, this one meeting?  How would we … Read More

“Get Your BUT (or Butt) Back to Church Sunday”

Our latest idea of getting folks’ attention and getting them to church is to CUT through the clutter and host a “Get Your But/Butt Back to Church Sunday”

I want your opinion of the two options:

  1. Get your Butt Back to Church Sunday – actually spell out “Butt” and go with the more direct approach – this one is in your face and definitely gets your attention.  But is it too crude?
  2. Get Your BUT Back to Church Sunday – use a play off the conjunction ‘But’ or excuses not to go to church.  This one is a play on words and addresses all the excuses we have for not going to church. Ex: “We know you’ve been busy, We know you’ve had reunions, We know you’ve been on vacation BUT is it time to get back to church this weekend…Get your BUTs back to church this weekend for a ….(then list what is happening that special day)

Ok, now let’s hear your thoughts on the best way to get this special weekend promotion done!
