PRESEASON
Preseason has caught on fire. There are so many awesome parallels to the work of God and Football training camp, it is crazy.
This past Sunday we studied Hebrews 12:1-17. We are running a race and we need to get in shape! Don’t let anything get in our way. Get rid of the weight and sin that so easily entangles us. We need to prepare for what God has in store for us. Verses 12-15 talk of specific issues we need to address.
David Huff
David Huff is one of my childhood heroes. What an awesome guitar player, songwriter, singer, but most of all SOLD OUT Christian. He has a tender, sweet spirit that represents Jesus so well. What a great man to hang out with.
He was at our church Sunday night and we were blessed by his ministry and worship. He texted me on Monday morning and said “You have a good thing going in San Marcos. I was honored to be with you all!” If I could print out that text and frame it, I would. Here is one song he did. It is a classic rock song from late 70s. HOLY RAIN!
Thoughts on Colossians 4:2-6
Please read Colossians 4:2-6. It’s only 5 verses! This will be the ‘text’ for PromiseLand San Marcos weekend services on Aug 1.
As you read, think about these concepts:
- are my prayers resolute/firm/unwavering/steadfast?
- are my prayers alert/watchful/vigilant/ready?
- are my prayers thankful/with gratitude?
- what doors are needed in my life that only God can open? Read the rest of this entry
Facebook Backlash!
Ok, since pulling the plug on Facebook two and a half weeks ago, I get a call, email, or text almost everyday from someone new. They all want to know why they can’t find me on Facebook. Here are some of the actual responses I have received. WARNING: This might seem a little bitter, hopefully no one gets offended. I’m still in the healing process…
Colossians part 7
Wow, we are already on part 7. Colossians 3:12-17 (see below)
This passage starts out discussing the ‘heavenly’ things we should be focusing on. What a great contrast to last week’s ‘earthly’ junk! These heavenly/Christ-like garments are what we are supposed to ‘put on’. He speaks of the unity of the body and how love binds everything together in perfect harmony. He talks of the Word of God and its influence. He speaks of the power of singing different types of songs. The passage is finished with the reminder that everything should be done ‘in the name of the Lord Jesus’. This is a warning that even good stuff can be twisted for our own selfish needs if we are not careful.
Your thoughts on the passage?
