Christmas Season
As a young child, every December brought this lovely feeling of Christmas.
Cold weather, decorations, smells of honey-baked ham and desserts, family milling around, intimate worship services at church. It all culminates on Christmas morning when we share family time together and give to one another. (my family anyway)
Sometimes, it doesn’t “feel” like Christmas. 85 degree temps, disjointed family relations, secular watering-down of ‘holidays’, stores stuffing specials down your throat. It is difficult to rouse the passion.
What are you feeling OR not feeling? Jesus. He can transcends your surroundings. Don’t rely on the weather, your neighbors, your school, your family, your …anything. If you aren’t into it, then my best advice is start: GIVING. Give your time. Volunteer at Angel Tree, at Bell Ringing. Donate money to needy. Give gifts. Say, “Merry Christmas” to everyone you see.
Give and it shall be given back to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. For the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.
You can feel the reason for the season in 85 degree temperatures.

PromiseGroup Revival
Jackie just came into my office and told me the outpouring they had in their PromiseGroup last night. The story resembled one I heard in the Bible. (see Acts 2)
The discussion and Word that was presented opened up a door. It reminds me of the song by Phillips, Craig, and Dean: This is How It Feels To Be Free. My favorite verse:
I can hear the sound of freedom
Like a distant voice who called
And beckon me to follow
Where I had never gone
And though my heart is willin’
I just stood there at the wall
Prayin somehow it would fall
But in a cross I found a doorway
And a hand that held a key
And when the chains fell at my feet
For the first time I could see
Jesus was bruised for our iniquities. Receive the healing.

Reflections from my 100th blog
Blogging has allowed “us” to “talk” on a semi regular basis. You can hear from others throughout the week instead of simply on Sunday or whenever you see them.
I put “us” in parenthesis because it is primarily built of our local church membership. However, there are a minority of regular readers outside of PSM. There is even a smaller minority of daily searchers. These people find the blog because of words they put in a search engine. The hottest topic I have here on the blog is “James Dean Hair“. Everyday, I get at least 1 or 2 visitors looking for something related to James Dean’s hair. That is fairly comical to me.
I put “talk” in parenthesis because commenting on blogs is a very weak version of talking. Electronic communication (especially email) is brutally misunderstood on a daily basis. Throughout the last 5 months I have deleted several comments. If I have deleted one of your comments, then please don’t be offended. Maybe I misunderstood your comment. Or maybe you misunderstood my post. Most likely you were correct in your writing and it was simply going in a direction that I didn’t want to go in.
However, having said all that, we all love it or we wouldn’t keep coming back. Day after day. By the time you read this we will have had over 23,000 visits to the blog since July. As I write this, we have had 739 comments! That is crazy.
I want the blog to be a safe place for you to think, laugh, meet and get to know other people. Ultimately, you should see Jesus rising through the text. If not, I have failed and wasted all of our time.
So, let “us” keep “talking”.

Wrong Turn Taken on the Straight and Narrow
Warning: this poem is a little edgy for our churchy audience. The overall meaning is very thought provoking.
Wrong Turn Taken on the Straight and Narrow
by Roy H. Williams
In the Land of the Way Things Ought to Be
I’m handsome and wealthy and strong and free.
But in the Land of the Way Things Really Are
I’m struggling and awkward, a bit bizarre.
I threw a party, invited my friends
From the Land of the Way It Might Have Been.
They were heartbroken. A man named Regret
Said they had gotten all they would get.
An Ambassador came, toupee in hand
From nostalgic Way-It-Used-to-Be Land,
Whose sad power comes from cellophane tape
On the box from which we try to escape.
War was declared by the Land of Who Cares
On the Used-to-Be, and all that is theirs.
“You don’t matter at all!” the Who-Cares cried,
“You said we had to, but we found you lied!”
Then there came from the Way It’s Always Been
Ten clones who bellowed, “Transgression and sin!”
They put their strength on the Used-to-Be side,
Shouting as one, “By these rules we abide!”
Onto the scene from the Land of Up Yours
Ran ten independents into the wars
Whose only concern was not being held
To standards imposed by heads that are swelled.
And all of this caused a deeper chagrin
Among those of the Way It Might Have Been.
“Can’t we all be friends?” they asked with big eyes,
Amidst the Up-Yours shouts and the Who-Cares cries.
But their pleas were drowned by the blood and noise
Of the late-arriving Gonna-Be boys
Whose only agenda was loud and long
Dismissal of those who said they were wrong.
And into the darkness the sparks did fly
And lifted like prayers into the sky
‘Til God stuck his fingers into his ears
And from his mouth flowed the music of spheres:
The sound of planets in orbit whirling,
The sound of lavender sunsets swirling,
The sound of smoke from a campfire curling,
The sound of a wondrous truth unfurling.
But none hears the music as they collide
Shouting “Beauty Herself is on our side!”
None hears the music. Not one of these Kings
Sees beauty in what the other one brings.
And the battle does rage, bubble and fizz
In the Land of the Way It Always Is.
Someone offers you…
If someone where to offer you money to sleep all night on a sidewalk…how much money would it take for you to accept?
Details:
Location- downtown San Marcos
Weather- cold (winter)
Situation- strangers would be sleeping around you
a. under $100
b. $100-$300
c. $300-$500
d. $500-$1000
e. over $1000
There is not “other” on this quiz, sorry.
