Christmas Season

xmas treeAs a young child, every December brought this lovely feeling of Christmas.

Cold weather, decorations, smells of honey-baked ham and desserts, family milling around, intimate worship services at church. It all culminates on Christmas morning when we share family time together and give to one another. (my family anyway)

Sometimes, it doesn’t “feel” like Christmas. 85 degree temps, disjointed family relations, secular watering-down of ‘holidays’, stores stuffing specials down your throat. It is difficult to rouse the passion.

What are you feeling OR not feeling? Jesus. He can transcends your surroundings. Don’t rely on the weather, your neighbors, your school, your family, your …anything. If you aren’t into it, then my best advice is start: GIVING. Give your time. Volunteer at Angel Tree, at Bell Ringing. Donate money to needy. Give gifts. Say, “Merry Christmas” to everyone you see.

Give and it shall be given back to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over. For the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.

You can feel the reason for the season in 85 degree temperatures.

  1. We picked up our tree on Saturday and Dennis was wearing shorts. I’ve been wanting to have a fire in the fireplace but it’s been too hot. Our tree looks great. That kind of gets me in the Christmas spirit…I just need to have a day to bake some cookies and decorate them. I’ve also been looking all over to a Harry Conick Jr. Christmas CD (Walmart didn’t have it…they didn’t have Reliant K either). Sounds like I need to check out ebay.

  2. Listen to Aretha Franklin sing “Joy to the World” just once……………

  3. Casey, I have that CD of Harry Conick and it is great.

    Anne, great advice!

  4. I got it on ebay for 4.00 with shipping…

  5. I remember a few months ago Jude gave away his coin collection to Kennady’s teacher because he heard that she needed food for her family. I guess he was into the Christmas spirit a little early and was an inspiration to us all that God is all about giving, not receiving. Even better, he was innocent enough to walk away from his act of kindness without a thought of getting something in return, or thinking “look at me, what a good person I am”. …Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God…

  6. I am getting in the Christmas spirit. I have been listening to Chrismas music, buying a few gifts (especially for grandkids and Angel Tree kids), wrapping a few gifts, decorated our home. It is beginning to feel and look alot like Christmas!!!! I love it!!!

  7. I really thought I would be down this Christmas season because it is the first one away from home, but God has really helped me. I already have my christmas cards out and my tree and lights up. Plus, I’ve been watching Christmas movies and listening to Christmas songs. (My favorite song right now is This Christmas.) And I’ve done some Christmas shopping for T-Bear, Chelsea and Shuntay. So I guess what I’m trying to say is if your not in the Christmas mood, just keep doing all your normal traditions for Christmas and the Christmas spirit will catch up to you in the middle of your efforts.

  8. well Christmas is in my heart! i live in a place where there is little, but wonderful people who are there for one another AND that is a wonderful feeling 🙂 i have been injured and really can’t do a whole lot other than smile and give my sincere words to others right now but yes, Christmas is a time of giving of what you have and can……………..thanks for being here ya’ll

PS hey when is the new pod cast gonna be on pastor??? 🙂
