The Blog And My Life Changes Again
This morning began a new season for me. I sat down at about 7am and started writing a book.
Last week, I ordered a correspondance course that leads me through the process of writing an entire book. Yesterday, I was like a little kid in a candy store when UPS delivered the package. I couldn’t wait to rip it open and get started. Today, I started working with the title and table of contents (it’s a non-fiction book).
This blog will be changing as of today. It will be a platform for me to throw ideas out and have you help guide me through the process. I will admit…there will be less blog entries from this point forward. I am sure that the my blog hits will go down in this process. I need to save all the creative, writing juices that I have for this book. Consequently, I will be tweeting less, and updating Facebook less. In order for newness to arrive, some of the old has to die. I really feel like this is a new dimension in my life and I am so glad that many of you will be with me along the journey. Of course, nothing in the realm of being a husband, father, or pastor will change. Those roles are non-negotiable.
I was encouraged today when several people said they wanted a copy of the book. I know now that I will at least have 3 readers. Jacob Lowery wants the first copy, John Ragsdale wants the 1 millionth copy, and Katherine Burgett didn’t stipulate which copy she wanted. I am not sure if John was trying to flatter me or he just wanted to make sure it was ‘worth it’ by a million others before he read it. 🙂
I am jogging off down the path. I will be stopping off here periodically for breaks to catch my breath and drink some water of support. Hopefully, you will be at the resting point pushing me on…

ps. for those that are interested in the topic of the book, stay tuned. That will come here soon enough.
Texas Bluebonnets
Enjoy these bluebonnet pics. We probably won’t see this many in ’09 because of the drought.
Thanks to Jerry Cole for sending these.
My Security Blanket
More and more, I want my Bible everywhere I go. Not just any Bible, but ‘my’ Bible. It is worn out (that should encourage my parishioners) and I have had to glue the binding back together. This month marks its third birthday.
My Bible is an English Standard Version from Crossway Bibles. I stumbled across this version at Barnes and Nobles three years ago, bought the Bible immediately, and can’t put it down. I now use the ESV for my sermon readings. About 1 year ago, I started marking in this Bible. That step is huge for me. I used to never write in my Bibles, but a couple years ago I started writing in another Bible and it was amazing. I highlight certain passages that stand out, and then write a 1 line description to summarize.
Rick Warren says he keeps a Bible for 10 years and then shelves it. In that 10 year period, he has a beautiful array of notations and experiences with that Bible. It then becomes sort of a scrapbook, that he can go back and relive revelatory moments. Rick Warren seems so organized. It’s like everything in his life is categorized and alliterated. I am not quite that detailed, and I don’t think this Bible will take another seven years of the wear and tear it is receiving.
This Bible seems to be more special to me than any before. What is it? The sleek design? The translation/version? The cool cover?
I have taught for a long time that the book has no power Read the rest of this entry
