Jackie’s Relative

While eating lunch together on Monday, we found out that our church administrator, Jackie Fields, is related to a famous dead person. Can you guess?

In fact, this person’s parents pierced her ears. Jackie will be signing autographs at church from now on…

Check back Wednesday for the revealed secret.

PromiseLand Update

It is Monday, and I am looking for the direction God takes this week. How about you?
Don’t get too bogged down in the everyday tasks and not see His vision for your life.

  • This week, we have activity going on upstairs, we are working on the Upper Room. Some final touches are being put on the doors. We are also meeting with a decor team. Soon, we will have the Upper Room complete with sound and projection systems and decor.
  • We were told last week that our parking lot lighting was going to be delivered. Well, we are still waiting. When it gets here, we will have a lighted parking lot and lighted sign (out by the road).
  • We are also making the final touches to our Saturday worship service. We ordering some cool, green shirts that say “I go to church on Saturday”. We are going through the stack of surveys where people volunteered for serving on Saturdays.
  • Thursday is our meeting with San Marcos Mayor, Susan Narvaiz. She wants to meet with our church so we can tell her how the city should plan their budget. You can join us at 7pm, childcare will be provided.
  • We are adding up the results for the 2007 Guest Contest and will let everyone know the results soon. Our church did real well against the other churches.
  • Tonight is the final session of “Financial Peace University”. I can’t wait to hear about the debt that has already been eliminated.

Our church is on the move.  Are you moving along with us?

New Way

While reading the Bible this morning, I came across a new way to correct misbehaving church members.

Check out how Nehemiah did it: “ I rebuked them and called curses down on them. I beat some of the men and pulled out their hair.

Of course this wouldn’t work too well on Scott Carley. But, I digress.

What do you think?

ps.  the passage is Nehemiah 13:25 and he corrected the people because they had intermarried with non-Jews.

Last Night

Last night many of us discussed our appetites in PromiseGroup. It was a chance to “go public” with our goals. Dealing with our problems with people we trust is vital to the success of our plan.

Check this Link for a list of foods that help fight cancer.

There are some tasty things on the menu.  However, there are mollusks and chicken giblets also. Nasty!
We get one more chance tonight to go public. We will be meeting at the church at 7pm.  Sorry, we will not have childcare available.

ok, so this is bad…

It seems that there was a little old church out in the countryside: painted white and with a high steeple.

One Sunday, the pastor noticed that his church needed painting. He checked out the Sunday ads and found a paint sale. The next day, he went into town and bought a gallon of white paint. He went back out to the church and began the job.

He got done with the first side. It was looking great. But he noticed he had already used a half gallon. He didn’t want to run back in town and being the creative person that he was, he found a gallon of thinner in the shed out back, and began to thin his paint.

It worked out great. He finished the remaining three sides with that last half gallon of paint.

That night, it rained: it rained hard. The next morning when he stepped outside of the parsonage to admire his work, he saw that the first side was looking great, but that the paint on the other three sides had washed away.

The pastor looked up in sky in anguish and cried out, “What shall I do?”

A voice came back from the heavens saying, “Repaint, and thin no more!”
