Matt Brock and Jacob Lowery Followers

Week of March23rd

This past weekend we had the post-spring break, low attendance crowd.  That is to be expected.

Matt sang his heart out and did incredible on a new song, “All For Jesus”.  I can’t wait to hear over 1000 people sing that on Easter Sunday morning.

Speaking of that….We are in full Easter prep mode!  We will be meeting with our crew and getting all the plans together this week.  Harry just designed some images for the Embassy Suites’ cable channel and the hallway TV monitors.  So cool.

Did you get your Easter mailer in the mail complete with magnet?

This coming weekend I will be speaking on, “I am not Judas”.  You should not be either… but, lets go ahead and let the cat out of the bag:  we are ‘not Judas’ not because we are flawless.  we are ‘not Judas’ because we chose the forgiveness, peace, and power of Jesus.  Bring someone with you to church.

This week is the final week of PromiseGroups until after Easter.  Go to group and find out what is happening next Trimester!

I am trying hard to keep up my goal of 2 books per month.  I have read/am reading: Dead Heat, Five Love Languages, The Broken American Male, Mere Christianity, Culture Warrior, and Epic Center.  ok, so I am listening to a couple of those on CD.  How about you?

More to come!

My Security Blanket

More and more, I want my Bible everywhere I go.  Not just any Bible, but ‘my’ Bible.  It is worn out (that should encourage my parishioners) and I have had to glue the binding back together.  This month marks its third birthday.

img00161-20090318-08251My Bible is an English Standard Version from Crossway Bibles.  I stumbled across this version at Barnes and Nobles three years ago, bought the Bible immediately, and can’t put it down.  I now use the ESV for my sermon readings.  About 1 year ago, I started marking in this Bible.  That step is huge for me.  I used to never write in my Bibles, but a couple years ago I started writing in another Bible and it was amazing.  I highlight certain passages that stand out, and then write a 1 line description to summarize.

Rick Warren says he keeps a Bible for 10 years and then shelves it.  In that 10 year period, he has a beautiful array of notations and experiences with that Bible.  It then becomes sort of a scrapbook, that he can go back and relive revelatory moments.  Rick Warren seems so organized.  It’s like everything in his life is categorized and alliterated.  I am not quite that detailed, and I don’t think this Bible will take another seven years of the wear and tear it is receiving.

This Bible seems to be more special to me than any before.  What is it?  The sleek design?  The translation/version?  The cool cover?

Guys Night Out

Sunday Night, I joined up with a couple of the guys from church for a little night out.  We took our laptops to Texenza Coffee Shop and filled out our NCAA Men’s BB Tourney brackets, then slipped over to Pluckers for some wings.  There are several levels of hot wings and then there is the XXXXXX Hot wings, also called “Fire in the Hole”.   Will Krauss ate about 5 or 6 of those, Mike Tapia ate 2 or 3 and I ate only 1.  It was so hot that I almost felt my tongue melting.  It was the hottest thing I had ever eaten.  The waiter said that they take their hottest sauce and then mix in ground-up habeneros.  OUCH.

I was wondering….WHY…while I gussled down ice cold water.  I still don’t have an answer other than it was an unforgettable night with 3 friends.  That is hard to beat.
