Direction and Humor

The book I am writing focuses on overcoming adversity, learning to dance in the rain, and being prepared for life challenges.  It will center around the story of my family and Kennady; our daughter born with many special needs.  I write about how we move through difficult times and how life was set up or prepared for it.

While preparing to write and getting the concept prepared, I am running into a bit of a challenge.  The topic is obviously serious and difficult to wade through.  Humor, on the other hand, plays a huge role in my life.  It will be very difficult for me to communicate anything without humor.

My question for you is:  how can I talk about deep emotional issues and still be true to my style of humor?  Will people be ‘set off’ by it?  is there anything I should be cautious of? (besides dangling participles? mom, that was for you)

thanks,

The Blog And My Life Changes Again

This morning began a new season for me.  I sat down at about 7am and started writing a book.

Last week, I ordered a correspondance course that leads me through the process of writing an entire book.  Yesterday, I was like a little kid in a candy store when UPS delivered the package.  I couldn’t wait to rip it open and get started.  Today, I started working with the title and table of contents (it’s a non-fiction book).

This blog will be changing as of today.  It will be a platform for me to throw ideas out and have you help guide me through the process.  I will admit…there will be less blog entries from this point forward.  I am sure that the my blog hits will go down in this process.  I need to save all the creative, writing juices that I have for this book.    Consequently, I will be tweeting less, and updating Facebook less.  In order for newness to arrive, some of the old has to die.  I really feel like this is a new dimension in my life and I am so glad that many of you will be with me along the journey.  Of course, nothing in the realm of being a husband, father, or pastor will change.  Those roles are non-negotiable.

I was encouraged today when several people said they wanted a copy of the book.  I know now that I will at least have 3 readers.  Jacob Lowery wants the first copy, John Ragsdale wants the 1 millionth copy, and Katherine Burgett didn’t stipulate which copy she wanted.  I am not sure if John was trying to flatter me or he just wanted to make sure it was ‘worth it’ by a million others before he read it. 🙂

I am jogging off down the path.  I will be stopping off here periodically for breaks to catch my breath and drink some water of support.  Hopefully, you will be at the resting point pushing me on…

ps.  for those that are interested in the topic of the book, stay tuned.  That will come here soon enough.

I was just forwarded this video from one of our original members.  These are scenes from our first few weeks of ministry in San Marcos. Looking back in these pictures, I see the smiles of people that are so excited!!  What a great thing God has done here in San Marcos.
