Book Excerpt 2

Read part 1

We were at a point of brokenness.  We had hopes that this would all go away even after the initial tests.  We thought we would pray, believe, and get the results we wanted.  However, after weeks of ‘no’ from God, we finally arrived at the breaking point.  At this point, we finally realized our plans and God’s were very different.  We came to the grips that we were in a race.  We raced not in a sprint but in a marathon.  Now, many years into the race and as a senior pastor I have come to grips that God allows everyone to sink to the breaking point.  To some it comes early in life and to others, it comes much later.  However, it is to our benefit spiritually and naturally to see this breaking point.  This point is where you realize you cannot possibly see victory on your own and you must have the help of another entity to survive much less thrive. Post from Jacob Lowery

michael’s heart

By jacob lowery

the michael jackson deal has really made me sad.

(i’m going to exclude all of the bad parts of his life in this blog.  i’m gonna choose to only think about his good stuff for now.)

i can remember my sister charity and i sitting on my bed holding a HUGE radio and listening to see how many times that the station would play “thriller” in an hour.  sometimes it was 6-7 times in an hour!

his music is tied up into so many of my memories.  i listened to it endlessly.  the melodys.  the arrangements. the instrumentation.  the soul.  it is simply timeless music.

i am sad.  i am sad that he didn’t get to “come back” like he was trying to do.  it would’ve been AMAZING to see and hear.

Notes from WKND

Click link for image of my new version of sermon notes.  I’m almost note free at this point.  I am preaching verse by verse, so I have little clues for each passage.

Baptism Thoughts

We are baptizing at the San Marcos River, July 5th.  If you haven’t been baptized or know someone that hasn’t, please read this post.  It covers the concepts of baptism very well.

This was written by a new friend of mine: Dr. Jeff Garner:

“Baptism- The watery replica of Jesus’ tomb serves as an invitation to be in Jesus. Paul terms it “in Christ,” “In Him,” and “In Whom” and speaks of baptism as though it were a washy lost and found. It’s a call to lose your sin-identity in Christ’s righteous identity. When you look at Jesus, from your baptism forward, you will see yourself in him. Baptism is the event by which you are placed in Jesus Christ. Your baptismal is a re-enactment in the redemption story of Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. You choose to separate from your old life and old self and going under the water is a type of burial and rising up out of the water is a type of resurrection. Our final exhale as we are placed under the water is a type of final breath and our held breath is a type of burial and our first inhale is a type resurrection life.
