My Backstage Life

Tony Morgan
Currently, I am being coached by Tony Morgan. He is teaching me, asking great questions, and pushing me to go further with God, ministry, and life overall. Part of my homework assignment this month is to read Replenish by Lance Witt.
Last night, I read a powerful truth that I needed for my own life and it just so happens to line up perfectly with PSM’s weekend message. I will be finishing our sermon series called FIT and this message is centered around “one on one discipleship”.
We all have a front stage and a back stage.
Out front is our public life. It is what everyone sees and knows about. We focus on making it look as good as possible. It is all about doing things. It is important. However, we are killing ourselves softly if we don’t…. Read the rest of this entry
39 years. 54 million…
“Pro-life” and “Pro-choice” both seem to have such a negative connotation. I immediately think of extremists. Why do I think of that? Because when ever pro-lifers are shown on television, they only show the strange, extreme, and often illegal protestors of abortion. I have a negative vibe with pro-choice people, because I completely disagree with them. This has left me and many others in my generation sitting on the sidelines doing…nothing. Saying…nothing.
‘There is nothing we can do.’
‘I don’t want to be associated with those people.’
‘We can’t change the laws.’
Thoughts like these resonate within our minds. I see pastors and leaders around me (that believe abortion is wrong), doing nothing on the topic. It is almost like it is a ‘late 80s/early 90s’ topic. We don’t see it fitting in our glossy sermon series. We don’t want to be controversial. We don’t know how to talk about it in a practical way. We might not even care.
Does God Care About Our Calendar?
This post will upset some folks. (disclaimer)
Every ‘first week’ of the year, I hear church leaders make bold statements about how the upcoming year ‘is THE year of destiny, blessing, purpose, fulfillment, etc…’. I’m starting to see a cycle. Most of them say the same thing every new year, and most fail to be accountable to the claim they made last year and the failure that was in the midst of last year. Whew… I said it.
It brings me to the question: Does God care about our calendar? When the clock strikes midnight, does it really ‘release God’ to do something different or better for us?
Why Intimacy?
Our Mission Statement as a church is:
To bring people into an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and each other.
The last two Sundays, Harry Fleming has preached on important parts of this statement. Week one was all about ‘bringing people‘ and week 2 was all about the forgiving power of ‘Jesus Christ‘. You can watch those messages here. The sermon series is called, “The Skinny on PromiseLand” and it explores ‘the why’ behind ‘the what’ of everything we do.
This week, I will tackle one word Read the rest of this entry
Is This The Gospel?
For the last month, I have been studying the book of Acts and it really encourages me. When I consider the ways of the modern church and all of its ‘technique’, it is refreshing to read scripture and be reminded of the power of God apart from our ways.
One of the things that really caught my eye is the way the apostles preach. They preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Jews, and it seems to be done the same way every time. The Jews have a strong foundation and knowledge of Jehovah, yet they do not know or recognize that Jesus is the Christ or Son of God. Peter consistently tells them that Jesus is the Christ of the God they ALREADY know. He is not trying to introduce completely new material, but give them a new revelation based on something familiar. After the people accept the truth and commit to Jesus, Paul does not make them remounce anything they believe about God already. It seems that the revelation of WHO Jesus is, is the only truth they need to be set free and saved.
What if we could use the same formula for preaching and bring people to knowing who Jesus is as savior?
