Last Night

Last night many of us discussed our appetites in PromiseGroup. It was a chance to “go public” with our goals. Dealing with our problems with people we trust is vital to the success of our plan.

Check this Link for a list of foods that help fight cancer.

There are some tasty things on the menu.  However, there are mollusks and chicken giblets also. Nasty!
We get one more chance tonight to go public. We will be meeting at the church at 7pm.  Sorry, we will not have childcare available.

I can do that!

The key to Sunday’s sermon is balance and moderation. It is NOT to stop eating. If you try drastic measures to lose weight or get in shape, you will fail. You need to start with reasonable steps where you can be successful and build confidence. We didn’t gain all the weight in one day and we aren’t going to lose it in one day, week, or maybe even in one year. But if we adopt new easy habits, they will subtract the fat over time.

Here are some practical ways:

  • Eat 5 times a day (600 calorie breakfast, 200 Calorie snack, 600 calorie lunch, 200 calorie snack, 600 calorie dinner). This keeps your metabolism going all day.
  • Eat Dessert! Make a realistic goal in reducing your desserts instead of trying to quit them altogether. Ultimately, 1 per week is a great goal.  Let them be a reward.
  • Eat ground Turkey instead of ground beef.
  • Eat bacon instead of sausage. Limit quantity! (not 18 slices)
  • Eat toast and bread with limited butter. Work toward eliminating butter. Eat jelly. yum! At restaurants like Chilis, almost half the calories on the hamburgers come from butter. You can ask the cooks to limit or eliminate the butter on your burgers.
  • Eat less cheese.
  • Eat your carbs earlier in the day if possible. Don’t eat bread in the evening meal.
  • Snack on fruit, veggies, nuts, raisins, twigs, I’m kidding just making sure you are reading.

How do those things make you feel?

Do you notice that all the points start with EAT!? You need to eat, your body is a fat burning machine and needs calories to burn. We just need to be good stewards over the eating process. Eat to nourish your body, not for comfort.

We are meeting Thursday night at the church, 7pm for our first “Lose it for Life” group.

Contagious Attitudes

Watch This

After watching the clip, do you see the power in your associations? We should realize the dynamic affect we have on the small groups around us. Don’t like their attitudes? Either make a move to change them or get out! Find a group that is going the direction you want to go in.

we need more room!

We are once again in the place where we are no stranger. We have no more room in the inn. People are hungry in San Marcos for Truth and they are finding it here at PSM. The “problem” is that we don’t have enough space for them all. Phase 2 of the vision includes adding on the Sanctuary. This will fit another 100 people.

We need a plan in the meantime. The best idea so far is to add a Saturday evening worship service. This would be the same great worship experience as Sunday. If you attended or volunteered on Saturday, you wouldn’t come back on Sunday. Saturdays would start at 6pm with plenty of time afterward for fellowship. (men would watch UT on the big screen upstairs.)  Saturdays would be a more casual dress code also.

What do you think? Do you have what it takes to launch a new church service? We would need about 100 people to make the move. This opens up great opportunity for new people to get involved in ministry positions. It also allows people that work on Sunday a chance to come to church.

Are you:

a. needing to stick with the 9 or 11 Sunday service.
b. going to church on Sunday, but would venture out and try Saturday
c. I want to go to church on Saturday! This is really cool.

Lazy

Yesterday’s sermon reached out and nipped you, didn’t it?

Proverbs 20:13 Do not love sleep or you will grow poor; stay awake and you will have food to spare.

Poverty and Scarcity are not the companions Christians.  As Jesus walked on Earth, he didn’t have a lot of money, but he was wealthy.  He had been given much and He returned much (plus interest).  He was not in poverty.

Can you rest and keep your Sabbath strategically?  Don’t use it as an excuse to loaf.  It all boils down to prioritization and balance.  How can we keep the important things important, and how can balance our life?
