A First Step in Change

Change is everywhere!  Political candidates can not say 3 sentences without harping on how they will “change it all up”.

In the current message series at PSM we are in a Campaign for Change.  The theme throughout each message is: We are to “be the change”.  Jesus modeled change as a forgiver and a servant.  Instead of us looking for change to happen to us, we need to look for change we can ignite and initiate.

If you are looking for a quick step to change, here is a simple answer: stop procrastinating.  You can launch change promptly by eliminating procrastination in your life.  Change is the antithesis to procrastination. The status quo is “I’ll wait until later to do that.”

While walking by that stack of clothes on the floor, it is so tempting to say, “I am not in the mood right now to deal with those.”  CHANGE is picking them up now.  It is tempting to put off a relationship with your neighbor.  CHANGE is taking the time now.  We often resist the urge to have a tough conversation with someone you love.  CHANGE is bringing up the topic now.

Mark Twain summed up most of our sentiments when he said, ” Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.

If the world is to change, it will start in little pockets of people.  From there, God produces great growth.  Only He has the power to grow.  I believe God is excited about seeing His people get excited about the process.

Let’s Pray for India!

Here is a letter I received from a fellow pastor in India.  Some of you might remember when he attended our service last year.

Dear Pastor Robin Steele in Christ,
Greetings in the wonderful name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. I hope you all are well and happy in Jesus. In TamilNadu we are safe by the grace of God and by your prayers. All the ministries are going very slow. We need your valuable prayer for Indian Christian. Very bad things are happening in India. gods of this world blinded the people’s heart and mind.
Persecution start against Christian. Last month in Orissa, last week in Karnataka [Bangalore] this week in Kerala. It is going to one place to another place, one   state to another state. There is no security for Christian’s life , house, churches, schools , orphanages, collages etc. The evil people are burning and killing Christians and their institutions. They are thinking through this they can destroyed Christian from India. They did not study the world history. In Egypt “ but the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites[ Exodus 1: 12] this what’s happening in India.
Pray with us for India
yours in Christ,
Pastor. A. Thankachan

Help me pray for our friends in India!

video update

here is a mini sample of where I am.  great church!

Testimony Service on the blog!

Pastor Robin,
Hello,  I am Pam Esparza, my husband, Vic and I started attending Promiseland during the summer and have been so blessed by the church.  My husband retired from the Air Force in Mar. 08. and through experience in our Air Force travels — a good church is hard to find.  Promiseland was the 2nd church we visited after moving to Kyle, so praise God we did not have to search forever to find it.
My other praise report is:  this months 1st Wednesday night service, you had asked those with a need to come forward for prayer and go through the prayer line.  Well, my husband and I are looking for jobs, so that was my first need, the second need was a healing, I had injured my arm, while repairing our rent house in Abilene, about 10 days before.  I had been living on high doses of Ibuprofen for the pain and avoiding the Doctor.  I decided I would stop taking the Ibuprofen and within a couple of days I was again feeling a lot of pain from my elbow to my finger tips.  Infact, that Wednesday night while sitting in church I was fighting back the tears from the pain.  But… Praise God!!  immediately after going through the prayer line the pain was totally gone!  Whatever the injury was–God completely healed it.  Praise God! He’s Awesome!

God Bless you and your family!
We missed you this morning!
Sincerely,
Pam Esparza

Dear Abby

DEAR ABBY: I am writing about a change I have seen in church. I accept the loud guitar music and informal settings, although I do miss the traditional hymns and formal altars.

What I cannot get used to is the forced “friendly” greeting and handshaking. I attend church to meditate and worship with my family. I do not go to shake hands with strangers and give them a greeting dictated by a pastor.

I like people. I am naturally caring, outgoing and friendly. However, I believe that a greeting or handshake should come from my own heart.

I have mentioned this to friends and family from all faiths, ages and walks of life. None of them like this scheduled “greeting” either. Many say they head for the restroom at that time, turn their backs or just shake hands with the people they came with, come to church late to avoid it, or don’t come at all. Others feel the practice is unsanitary.

I suggest that church leaders take an anonymous poll and ask how many in their congregations agree with me. What do you think, Abby? — MINISTER’S DAUGHTER, CAYUCOS, CALIF.

DEAR DAUGHTER: Thank you for asking my opinion. Here it is: Something is wrong in our fragmented society if, for one moment in a house of God, people cannot find it in their hearts to reach out and make sure that everyone feels included and welcome. And for those who fear it is unsanitary — bring small bottles of hand sanitizer.
