NEW YEAR NEW LOOK

The time has come to CHANGE. I need it and well…we all do. This site change is much cleaner, simpler, and hopefully will accent the new blog attitude.

Blogs here in 2009 will be different than years past. I am going to focus on fewer and longer blogs this year. I will put more effort and thought into each one. Therefore, there will be less blogs because I don’t have any more time than usual. SO, the idea is to generate more discussion each day through deeper topics and conversations. Let’s see how it goes. An example of what I am talking about is the 2yr without Cable Blog.

So, I hope you come along for the ride and discuss great ideas, Biblical concepts, and of course funny diversions.

Aledo High seniors pick classmate with Down syndrome as homecoming queen

Never has the selection of a homecoming queen sent so many tears falling so freely.

Kristin Pass, an 18-year-old senior with Down syndrome, became Aledo High School’s homecoming queen Friday to a joyous standing ovation and the flutter of a thousand tissues on a remarkable night for an amazing young woman.

Her grandfather, Dr. David Campbell of Corsicana, escorted her onto the field and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek as Kristin joined eight other young women in the Homecoming Court to await the results of the vote, cast by the 360-plus members of Aledo High’s senior class.

Then came the announcement … and pandemonium.

“Oh my gosh! I was sitting in the student section and everyone stood up, crying and cheering for Kristin,” said longtime friend and fellow senior Meaghan Geary, 17, who first met Kristin in the third grade. “It was great!”

How to get rich

This is an excerpt from Mark Cuban, a multi-millionaire and owner of the Dallas Mavericks. He speaks on the path to great financial wealth:

There are no shortcuts. NONE. With all of this craziness in the stock and financial markets, there will be scams popping up left and right. The less money you have, the more likely someone will come at you with some scheme . The schemes will guarantee returns, use multi level marketing, or be something crazy that is now “backed by the US Government”. Please ignore them. Always remember this. If a deal is a great deal, they aren’t going to share it with you.

I dont broadcast my great deals. I keep them all to myself. The 2nd thing to remember is that if the person selling the deal was so smart, they would be rich beyond rich rather than trolling the streets looking to turn you into a sucker. There are no shortcuts.

So what should you do to get rich ?

Save your money. Save as much money as you possibly can. Every penny you can. Instead of coffee, drink water. Instead of going to McDonalds, eat Mac and Cheese. Cut up your credit cards. If you use a credit card, you dont want to be rich. The first step to getting rich, requires discipline. If you really want to be rich, you need to find the discipline, can you ?

Lessons learned from Africa

This is the type of thing you learn when Pastor Ani Simonson stays with you:

  • there are 2 types of medical facilities in Nigeria – a cheap version for minor cuts or bruises.  This is a very risky place. You enter at ‘your own risk’.  The other facility is for the rich only.  You must pay BEFORE any services are offered.  No exceptions.  Therefore, if you cut your arm off and you don’t have money, you are not allowed entrance into the hospital.  There is no help from medical staff regardless of your medical condition.  No health insurance, no credit.  This is why bullet #2 is so important…
  • He and his wife wake up at midnight (every night) and pray until 3am.  They go back to sleep and then wake up at 6am for another hour of prayer.  He goes to the church property, which currently has no buildings or facilities, and stays there throughout the day.  He prays with people as they walk by and request assistance.
  • His tribe is the one who appeared in ‘Amazing Grace’ the blockbuster movie about abolitionists in England and Western Africa.  There are still slavery houses in his home town.  Tourists can travel through them to see how it actually happened.

When we begin to think about our economy and the affects of a recession, maybe we should think about the rest of the world and put it in a different perspective.

West Virginia

I am heading to the airport.  I am flying to West Virginia to meet with Pastor Wright from Maranatha.  This is the church that the Armstrongs and all those other WV folks came from.

I will be back this weekend!

love you.
