Pastor Robin
Go back to the basics as to why you became a preacher in the first place. You are your best when you are being just you. Find time to focus on that rather than technology. Yes you can get the word out there but the message that God gives you is the power at hand that leads us to Promiseland
I agree. I feel we need to get back to basics and make ‘church’ an intimate, personal thing. Although, I do look up an occasional online service/message/text. I learn best in person. I feel it’s important to get away from the world and get into The Word. I know that many are and can be reached through Youtube, Myspace, Facebook, Twitter etc. but we (the church) are ‘supposed’ to get fed and then go and feed others. If it’s all done online, then it takes the responsibility away from us.
this wouldn’t effect my prep or delivery for sunday morning. it is supplementing the congregation with sermon notes and outlines on their cell phones/laptops (if they are interested or capable). In different classroom settings, we might make it more interactive with questions, polls, etc.
I guess I’m once again a dinosar, but I firmly believe all cell phones, pagers, and computers should be left in the car when a person comes to church. If the congregation wants the tech support, all this could be available on the website if it is not already. What we really need is for each and every one of us to prepare our hearts and minds before service so that when we show up God is there in our hearts and His presence will impact those who need Him.
Pastor Rob my sentiments exactly. You’re no dinosaur. No matter how in tune with The Spirit you are, it can be a distraction when people are twittering, texting and taking pictures during service. It’s an interruption of the flow of The Holy Spirit. That is what I meant by getting away from ‘the world’ and into The Word. Levae the unimportant and get down to what’s important. No fluff.
Acts 4:31
31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Acts 5:12-16
12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. 13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. 16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.
Today’s message (Brother from Bolgaria) confirmed something to me… If you want to spread the gospel, do it like the disciples. We have enough marketing. Anyone can market…there are churches on every corner with good marketing. Marketing relys on our skills. The early church grew because signs and wonders followed them. The Holy Spirit draws people to Jesus… it doesn’t matter how many people we get to walk in the door, if the Holy Spirit isn’t there, it may as well be a PTA meeting. I have been to many churches, all over the U.S.. We don’t need another gadget, flyer, mailout, website, billboard, etc. What we need is a MOVE of the HOLY SPIRIT. When the Holy Spirit moves, people are not going to care about where they will sit, if the AC is working properly, they will not care if we serve coffee or if we have high definition video…all that stuff is about us. When the Holy Spirit comes, it is all about HIM.
Pastor Robin,
I have been very heavy in my heart since I wrote the above comment. I don’t always
think before I type. When I saw the video suggesting technology in the church I was thrown into the realm of school and how technology has taken away for the inquisitiveness of students. Everything is already thought out for them. I was teaching students how to mix colors when a comment came out and one of the students couldn’t understand why they just couldn’t use purple instead of mixing two colors together. Crayola in its wisdom to utilize color theory has taken away the experimental stages of young people….. “I want it now” and “I don’t want to work for it to get there”. Your struggle and passion for Christ is what illuminates Promiseland San Marcos. Your passion for the word and the sermons you grace us with can not be duplicated. I watched on line this weekend yes I got the sermon but I did not get the presence, the atmosphere of God like I do when you are there sharing the word. I know your struggle to, and all that you do and I feel like maybe I offended you and that was not my intent. So please forgive me if I in my haste have caused you any feeling of discouragement of feeling of controversy.
Sincerely
Vib Schulle
